Back in Namche

Well here i am back in Namche after the first shower in a week having been "stinky like Yak". Made it to base camp and failed to make Kala Pathar after succomming to a little mountain sickness. As before the promised 3G was not there so pictures and updates a problem. One of our number was helicoptered down at 5200m which was no mean feat. I will attach photos when i get back. Thanks for all the support.

Andy Biss

Hi All,
This is actually being sent from San and the Kids as the promised technology here hasn't materialised! I phoned them this morning at 7am to say "we'v made it"! Yipee mission accomplished we have arrived at Everest Base Camp. I will update my blogs once we start returning to sea level, proper oxygen and technology. Thank you all for your support in memory of Andy Horton.
Bye for now
Andy.

Namche Bazaar

Have arrived in the Sherpa capital yesterday of Namche Bazaar after a long day of crossing bridges and a grueling 800m ascent. Altitude is now 3400m. On the way we passed a sherpa carrying up 10 cases of beer plus other stuff we reckoned weighed in excess of 100kg. There is no road transport andalthough yak trains are prevalent sherpas do the carrying.
Ascended to 3900m today to Everest view hotel and was not dissappointed, the most fabulous view i have ever seen. Back to same tea house tonight before heading up to Tengboche monastary.
By the way i have mobile signal up to base camp but not GPRS so it will not be possible to upload photos.
No altitude problems at moment however that will change i imagine shortly. I will keep you posted.

This is it

Spent day going around temples of Kathmandu. The town is highly polluted and not very pleasant with smoke and overcrowding. Almost feel that i have arrived 40 years too late. Anyway in a few hours i am on the early plane to Lukla airport. Wished we had got going today but thats the way it is. Sending pictures is going to be a little difficult but bear with me. getting loads of tips off "old salts" who have just come back.
General opinion is nery difficult but very rewarding.
